本研究では、言語情報を迅速にかつ効果的に処理することを考える一つの対象として、文部省が昭和24年以降刊行してきた学術用語集、特に、新言語学の学術用語集の編集・処理の問題を取り挙げた。これまで、かなりの部分手作業で行なわれてきた学術用語集の編集は、今日のように計算機が身近になり、使い易くなると、計算機を利用することが可能になる。計算機を利用することは、学術用語を収集したり編集したりする際の作業が大幅に改善されるし、また、後に改訂作業をしたり、各種の学術用語集を集大成することも容易になる。本研究では、昭和58年度から3年間に行なわれた新言語学の学術用語集の標準化の作業を踏まえて、特に次の4点を中心に研究を進めた。(1)学術用語標準化の作業基準の検討 (2)学術用語の表記の仕方の検討 (3)日本語訳の表記の仕方の検討 (4)標準化の作業を効率よくするためのプログラムの開発本研究の結果明らかになったことは次の諸点である。(1)学術用語集は日本語を使用するので、資料の入力にはパソコンを使用することが可能であり、その際には、入力の形式は「英語の用語、日本語訳、日本語訳の読み」としてこれを原本として「英語→日本語」版と「日本語→英語」版を計算機によって編集する(4)英語の用語と日本語(訳)の用語の排列順序を計算機で行う際には、規定されたコード表に依存することになるので、期待される排列順序を得るためには、データに対して前処理しなければならない。特に、用語の頭や中途に現われる数字や記号を処理するためには、原本のデータからソート項目を作り出すことが必要になる。(3)前処理を行なうことを考えてもなお期待される排列順序が得られない場合がいくつか見られるので、これらに関しては、用語集の排列方法の再検討が必要になる。
