We tried to establish a new method for the differential diagnosis of the bacterial overgrowth syndrome and the malabsorption syndrome by determining the serum bile acid.By the determination of the individual bile acids with use of high performance of liquid chromatography it was possible to diagnose the overgrowth syndrome,since free bile acid and deoxycholic acid were increased by deconjugation or 7a dehydroxylation by the intestinal bacteria, respectively.On the other hand , by the determination of plasma clearance curvve of total bile acids after oral loading of 500mg ursodexycholic acid it was possible to diagnose the malabsorption syndrome, since clearance curve became flat in the existence of malabsorption.Therefore, with use of both tests it was possible to make differential diagnosis between overgrowth syndrome and malabsorption syndromeby taking blood sample which has been impossible.

我们试图建立一种通过测定血清胆汁酸来鉴别细菌过度生长综合征和吸收不良综合征的新方法。通过使用高效液相色谱法测定单个胆汁酸，可以诊断过度生长综合征，因为游离胆汁酸和脱氧胆酸通过肠道的去结合或7a脱羟基而增加。 另一方面，通过口服500mg熊去胆酸后测定总胆汁酸的血浆清除率曲线，可以诊断吸收不良综合征，因为吸收不良的情况下清除率曲线变得平坦。因此，使用这两种测试可以对过度生长综合征和吸收不良进行鉴别诊断 通过采集血液样本来治疗综合症，这是不可能的。
