タイ湾東海岸部及びバンコク近郊の工業地帯を中心として,地域政治,人口移動,就業構造,労働市場,都市の社会関係・生活構造についての総合的な調査を行い,特に出稼労働者,移住労働者の労働と生活に焦点をあてて,都市・農村関係の新展開の様相を究明し,労動力移動と地域都市社会の研究に寄与する.首都圏及び東部臨海部において,工場,労働者及び住居地コミュニティーを対象として,出稼者,移住労働者の労働と生活に関する調査を行った. 以下の点があきらかである.(1)首都圏の労働市場は,やや内部労働市場的傾向があるが,職階ごとの分断が顕著で,下層職階において開放性がある. また労働市場の地域性が顕著で全国的統一労働市場は未形成である. 首都圏の兼業農村地域では兼業労働の結果不足した農業労働力を遠隔地からの出稼労働者により補う傾向がある. バンコクを洪水から守る防水堤の建設により農用地の転換が促進されている.(2)チョンブリーの労働市場は小規模事業所が多く,かなり開放的である. しかし都市の安舟的職種は地元市民が占め,遠隔地の東北出稼者は農漁村の第一次産業,農水産物加工業等に従事する. 都市周辺の新興住宅街の住民は農村からの出稼者ではなく,移動の前歴を持つものが多い. 安定的工場や一次産業に従事せず,都市インフォーマル・セクターに従事する傾向がある. 若年層の失業が多いが出稼はしない.(3)東北出稼者は農漁村で村造単位の作業班で同じ職種に従事することが多い. 新世代は通年的出稼者も多いが,故郷の村との関係を完全に断ってはいない.今後は,1)農村の賃労働者化のプロセス2)労働市場の重層的構造3)移住民コミュニティーの社会関係等について,より立ち入った検討のため,第2段階の調査も必要である.
