現在, 日本の国公立大学薬学部には薬用植物園の設置が義務づけられ, それぞれに多数の薬用植物を保有して教育研究に利用しているが, それらが相互に, 或は外部より利用易い形にまとめられていない. 本研究は, わが国の国公立大学薬用植物園施設に裁培されている教育研究用植物を共通のデータベース上に記録し, 教育研究上一層活用し易い様に情報の整理を行うとともに, それらを生産利用や新しい薬物開発に役立たせることを目的として,国公立大学薬用植物園園長会議の要請に基き,本年度に発足し,全国公立大学薬用植物園が参加して行われたものである.本研究では, まず, 全国公立薬用植物園について保有植物目録を整備完成させ,それに基いて,植物学名,和名,科名,薬用資源としての価値,の4項目についてデータベース化を行った. これらについては各大学所有のパーソナルコンピュータによって処理可能となり,各大学所有の葉用植物を一度に比較検討することができる様になった. この間,数度の体葉委員会及び全体会議を開催して見解の統一を計るとともに,新たな情報のデータベース化にともなう問題点について検討討議した. 新たな情報としての個体識別(別名,由来),植物学的事項(裁培特,遺伝子源としての利用),教育利用項目(成分,葉理,用途,文献)等については,未だフォーマットに関する統一見解がえられず今後の検討課題として残されており, それにともなう大型コンピュータ使用の問題も次年度以降の課題となっている.本研究は本年発足したばかりであり, まだまだ検討すべき課題は多い. 今後機会をとらえ, 当初の目的であるより充実したデータベースの完成をはかりたい.なお,本年度の研究成果ならびに現段階のデータベースについては4月末に刊行の予定である.
