本研究は、わが国の国公立大学薬用植物園研究施設にて栽培、保管されている教育研究用の全植物を、共通のデータベース上に記録し、教育研究上一層整理活用し易い様に、情報の整理を行うことを目的に始められたものである。その結果は薬用植物の生産利用や新らしい薬物開発に役立つであろう。本研究は、国公立大学薬用植物園園長会議の要請に基ずき、昭和62〜63年度の2年間にわたって、全国公立大学薬用植物園が参加して行われた。昭和62年度には、まず、全国公立大学薬用植物園について、保有植物目録を整備完成させ、植物学名、和名、科名、保有大学名についてデータベース化を行った。その成果は昭和63年に中間報告書の形で刊行した。本年度(昭和63年度)においては、上記4項目に加え、薬用資源としての価値を加えた。その他の情報(別名、由来、栽培特性、遺伝子資源としての利用、成分等)次目については、特別なものについて、特記事項*として付記するにとどめた。また、現在までの情報について補充、誤りの訂正を行った。本データベースは各大学のパーソナルコンピュータによって処理可能であるが、簡単な利用のために索引をもうけた。さらに、その高度な利用例を例示した。これらをとりまとめた最終成果は4月中旬に刊行の予定であり、これによって各大学所有の薬用植物が一度に比較検討することができる様になる。
