史料目録等の成果. 1辻新次文書目録-今回発掘した文書, 書翰1149通, 書類102点を目録化した. 主要書翰については筆写が完了した. 2久保田譲文書目録-書翰24通, 書類37点を目録化した. 書翰はすべて筆写が完了した. 3辻関係史料の収集及び整理. (1)国立国会図書館憲政資料室所蔵の私家文書中, 辻書翰の収集, 複写, 目録作成. (2)辻著作(談話を含む), 評伝関係史料を収集, 複写, 目録を作成した. 対象とした教育関係雑誌は教育新誌, 教育時論, 教育報知, 大日本教育会雑誌, 国家教育, 帝国教育等であり, 〓皆調査した. 主要教育雑誌の調査により, 従前全く知られていなかった数多くの辻の著作(記事)を収集することができた. (3)なお, この他明治期から大正期にかけての文部首脳-小松原英太郎, 岡田良平, 江木千之, 手島精一等-の関連史料も適宜収集した.上記の史料収集及び整理と平行して, 次のようなテーマの研究発表が行われた. 文部省機構の整備と辻新次について. 日本近代官僚制成立史における辻新次について. 学制改革問題と辻及び久保田について. 帝国教育会と辻との関係について.以上のような史料整理と研究発表を通じて, 明治初期から大正期に至る文部行政の形成・確立過程における辻及び久保田の果たした役割及び人脈の形成をあきらかにすることができた. 辻文書中の書翰発信人は実に444名を数え, 文部省関係者をほとんど網羅していた. そして, 特に太政官制度から内閣制度への移行前後20年間における文部省機構の整備と教育行政, 政策とは, 辻, 久保田, 浜尾新をキーパースンとして進められていたことが明確になった. 以上, 辻, 久保田をはじめとしたサブリーダー, 実務官僚の存在に照明をあてることにより, 文部行政の実態史研究の契機を聞くことができた.
