1)今年度の補助金で行われた有珠10遺跡第3次発掘調査では, 3基(5号, 6号, 7号墓)の墓壙を確認し, 5体分の埋葬人骨と多数の散乱人骨を得た.2)5号墓とした直径30cmの円形の土壙からは, 改葬されたと思われる新生児ないし乳児のほぼ全身骨格と, これに混じる豊富な副葬品(熊の彫刻のついた鹿角製スプーン, 大形の石斧, 貝製のビーズ等)が出土した.3)6号墓も改葬墓と思われるもので, 小児の骨格の一部が楕円形のプランの皿状のくぼみより出土した.4)7号墓も改葬墓と思われる. 直径1mの円形の土壙低に2体の人骨が, 多数の副葬品とともに検出された. 1体は男性のもので, ほぼ全身骨格が認められ, 頭骨, 上肢骨, 下肢骨とも一ケ所に積み重ねるようにまとめられていた. 大腿骨最大長から推定される身長は, 160.5cmで, 縄文人平均よりやや高い. 他の1体は女性のもので, 頭骨(下顎骨は遺存)を欠くが, その他はほぼ全身骨格が同定される. 大腿骨最大長から推定される身長は152.4cmで, やはり縄文人平均よりやや高い.5)本遺跡の改葬墓はこれまでに3例認められており, 今回の調査で6例となった. 北海道内におけるこの時期の改葬例は従来まったく知られていなかったが, あるいは風習として行われていた可能性もあり, 今後十分に検討してみる必要性がでてきた.
