Botanical study on some families in northwest Yunnan (Hengduan Mountains)

Iwatsuki visited Nanjing Botanical Garden and Kunming Institute of Botany, and Wu visited the Botanical Gardens, University of Tokyo. They examined herbarium specimens and exchanged information and data to summarize the results of this research project. The herbarium specimens, which had been collected during 1987 and 1988 field studies in Yunnan and the Qing-zang Plateau, were preliminarily identified. Chinese and Japanese species of Athyriaceae, Dryopteridaceae, and Polypodiaceae were compared taxonomically and phytogeographically. DNA systematics of Asplenium sect. Hymenasplenium is in progress.Systematics and cytotaxonomy of Crassulaceae and Saxifragaceae were made. Ecological studies of Yunnan vegetation were made more intensively. The herbarium specimens identified were housed at Kunming Institute of Botany and University of Tokyo Herbarium, and duplicates are to be sent for exchange to major herbaria of the world.
