上田正『切韻諸本反切総覧』に復元推定されている原本『切韻』の反切を,吟味を加えつつカ-ド化し,反切上字の韻母・反切下字の声母の全体的分布に関する詳しい統計表を作成した。これは随唐音韻史の基礎である『切韻』の音韻体系に関する考察を進める際の基本資料として永く役立つものである。現代諸方言の調査資料についても鋭意収集し,音韻の地理的分布について知見を増すことができた。これらの資料を用いて,従来から議論の多い随唐音韻史上の諸問題について考察し,自分として一応納得のゆく結論に達した。「舌上音」の音価については現在有力なretroflex説を否定しpalatal説を支持する結論を得た。「重紐」については声母によって音価のニュアンスが異なること,喉音韻尾については円唇性の弱化と口蓋性の強化とが随唐音韻史の経過において相互に関連すること,などを立証しえた。声調に関しては,方言資料・文献資料および押韻資料の分析を通じて,上古音より随唐を経て現代官話諸方言に至る声調調値価変化の大筋を初めて描くことができた。その結果,上古音時期には音韻論的な意味での声調はまだ存在せず,主母音・韻尾における喉頭緊張の有無が声調の区別に転化したとの結論を得た。これは中国語とチベット語との親近性に一つの追証をもたらすものである。以上のような中国語音韻史に関する新知見を織り込みながら,研究代表者の旧稿「中古漢語の音韻」(大修館『中国文化叢書』所収)を大幅に改訂補充した「中古音講義」なる原稿をほぼ完成した。更に多少の改訂を加えて出版を考える予定である。
