本研究は、1980年代に世界経済の中心国的地位を失いつつあるアメリカと新たな「経済大国」になるつつある日本の二つの国をとりあげ、主に二つの分析視角からこの両国経済を比較し、かつ両者の関係を考察しようとしたものである。第1の「中心国論的アプロ-チ」は、両大戦間期以後のアメリカと70年代以後の日本を比較するもので、本研究では、それぞれの貿易・経常収支の大幅黒字構造の形成とそれを背景とした資本輸出国化ないし債権国化の過程を、証券投資と直接投資の両面から考察を進めた。両国とも、この過程が比較的短期的に急激に進み、証券投資は国内の投機的マネ-ゲ-ムと関連し、直接投資は急速な多国籍企業的展開をもたらした点で、共通面がみられる。ただ、戦間期のアメリカの対外証券投資の激しい動きが世界恐慌の引き金の役割を果たしたのに対して、1980年代の日本のそれはこれまでのところアメリカの経常収支赤字を埋め合わせるかたちで「ドル本位制」を支える重要な要因になっている。また両国産業企業の多国籍化の過程では、いずれもそれぞれの技術優位の国際移転に貢献するが、ハ-ドウェアの面に技術優位をもつアメリカ企業が比較的スム-スに多国籍化したのに対して、ソフトウェアないし人的要素に大きく依存する日本企業の場合、苦労が多いようである。以上の両国の証券投資、直接投資について、それぞれ異なる面は、日米の投資家、銀行組織、企業などの行動様式の特徴、ひいてはその背後にある社会、文化の違いに多かれ少なかれ関連しているようであり、この側面を第2の視角「社会文化論的アプロ-チ」によって解明しようとした。以上の研究は、内外の資料、文献の収集、各分野の研究者との交流および別の日米共同研究プロジェクト(日本製造企業の対米進出)の成果の利用などによっておこなってきた。ただし、本研究は年度途中で認められたこともあり、なお最終的なまとめにまで到っていない。

This study focuses on the loss of the status of the central country in the world economy in the 1980s. The first part of this paper is about the comparison between Japan and China after the 1970s. The paper discusses the background of the formation of the structure of the capital export, debt and foreign direct investment. China, the United States, the process of short-term rapid development, securities investment and domestic speculation, direct investment and rapid development of multinational enterprises, common ground In Japan in the 1980s, the impact of the global panic on foreign equity investment was a major factor in the recovery of the deficit. The process of multi-nationalization of Japanese industrial enterprises includes the contribution of various technical advantages to the international migration of Japanese enterprises. The characteristics of the behavior patterns of investors, banking organizations and enterprises in Japan and Japan, as well as the social and cultural violations behind the above mentioned securities investment and direct investment, are explained from the second perspective of "social and cultural theory". The above research includes internal and external data, literature collection, communication between researchers from different fields, and utilization of results from joint research by Japanese manufacturers.
