本研究による成果は、次の二つに要約される。その第一は、小国の仮定のもとで、交易条件が有利化する際の国内の経済厚生がかえって減少する可能性を指摘するものである。通常なされる完全競争の仮定のもとでは、交易条件の有利化は、必ず経済厚生を引き上げることが知られている。しかし、現実の経済においては完全競争的な状況は少なく、寡占や関税補助金等の経済的な歪みのもとで、貿易が行われている。本研究によって、輸出補助金が支給されている時、その財の国際価格の上昇はかえって、経済厚生を引き下げてしまうことがわかった。さらに、国内に寡占的な部門が存在するときにも、交易条件の有利化が経済厚生を引き下げる場合の条件を求めた。第2の成果は、完全競争を仮定したヘクシャー・オリーンの2国2財2要素の一般均衡貿易モデル(HOモデル)を、自由参入のある寡占部門が存在する場合に拡張し、経済的性質がどのように変更されるかを求めたことである。その結果、HOモデルにおける要素価格均等化定理を寡占的なモデルにまで拡張した。また、HOモデルにおいては、比例拡張的な関係を持つ2国間では、閉鎖体系での各国の相対価格は等しく、貿易はありえず、また、開国の利益もありえないことになる。これに対し、寡占的な状況では、閉鎖体系では寡占財の価格は両国で異なり、小さい方の国においてより高いことがわかった。しかし、それにもかかわらず開国によって貿易は起こらず、さらに、貿易がないにもかかわらず、開国によって経済厚生は上がることが分かった。これは、開国によって、寡占的な部門での独占度が低下し、各企業の設定する価格が引き下げられるという、寡占に特有の効果が現れるからである。本研究で確立された寡占的貿易モデルにより、今後、国際要素移動の効果や関税といった諸問題を、寡占的枠組のもとで明らかにしていく。
