Role of Medullasin in Granulocytes in Biophylaxis

Effect of environmental factors on the activity of medullasin in qranulocytes was investigated. Addition of fat from pig on the diet of mice caused an increase of medullasin activity in qranulocytes, however, that from bovine brought about a decrease of it. Addition of fish oil containing high percent of eicosapentaic acid and docosahexanoic acid to the diet of mice increased the protease activity. Low molecular weight peptide inhibitors of medullasin were purified from human bone marrow cells. Two inhibitors were found. They were composed of 34 or 36 amino acids corresponding to the sequence -terminal of human hemoglobin beta chain. They inhibited medullasin activity reversibly and non-competitively with substrate.
