There has been an increased awareness about the importance of international understanding through exchange of information and culture in this rapidly shrinking world. This is especially the case in the field of education. In the borderless global society, it has become extremely essential to develop educational materials of various kinds through the mutual cooperation and share these assets at the global level in the present world of education. In an attempt to improve the present situation in this respect, our project entitled "A Research on Implantation of Japanese Audioーvisual Media and International Understanding among Primary and Lower Secondary School Children in Australia and New Zealand" was undertaken. Six investigators from Japan visited these countries to undertake a series of field survey. The items which interested the students about modern Japan are as follows : technology in transport industry, cars, electrical appliances, computer industry, sports, family life, daily liv … More es of young people, tourism, food, etc. The examples of traditional Japanese culture that the students wanted to know more includes doll festival, boy's day, kimono, kendo, judo, ninjutsu, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, geisha girls, and religion. The students in New Zealand are also eager to know a lot of ideas about Japanese daily lives, tradition, and history. The reactions of the teacher and administrator respondents on the audio-visual media for international understanding are seen in the following aims : 1) to understand not only the differences but also the similarities among the countries by respecting all human races, cultures, civilizations and life styles which would enable the recognition of mutual global interdependence among nations and also the ability to communicate with other people by sharing knowledge and experiences, and 2) to understand the necessity of international cooperation and joint effort to solve worldwide problems that could bring about peace, human rights understanding, and maintenance of freedom and social justice.
