The main objectives of this project are to promote information exchanges between U. S. and Japan in the science and technology of advanced materials. In this fiscal year (April, 1990 - March, 1991), two young researchers, Prof. M. Miyayama and Dr. T. Inabe, visited U. S. for three months, and studied on new ceramic materials and organic conducting materials, respectively. Other than the long stay, we had a joint conference on "Materials of Advanced Functionality" at the university of Alabama on December 17, 1990. Five Japanese scientists (H. Inokuchi, K. Araki, Y. Matsunaga, T. Sugawara, and Y. Maruyama) and more than ten U. S. scientists of the University of Alabama participated in this conference. The conference provided with a good oppotunity to exchange up to date information on a varieties of functionality materials.
