The Purpose of this study was to confirm the nuclei and tracts in the brain of the house musk shrew, which was recently domesticated as an experimental nimal, and to show three dimensional arrangement of those nuclei and tracts. Identification of the nuclei or subnuclei was studied by the retrograde marking method using the HRP. Stereoscopic picture of the nuclei was shown using the three dimensional reconstruction soft ware OZ (Olympus, Japan) on a personal computer.1. Stereoscopic demonstration of the facial nucleus of the house musk shrew showe clearly five subnuclei (medial, lateral, dorsal, intermediate and accessory). The HRP studies revealed that dorsal-ventral and oral-caudal arrangements of peripheral muscles reflected on the subnuclei supplying these muscles as dorsal-ventral and lateral-medial in the nucleus, respectively.2. Afferent radices of X and XII ran ventrolaterad without uniting with afferent roots of VII and X nuclei which entered from dorsolateral side and ran through the spinal trigeminal nucleus. Periambigual area was there in the ventro-medial region of the ambiguous and afferent vagal radix.3. The III, IV and VI nuclei showed intermittent cell columns at the place resembling to the rodents.
