A Study on Conventional Farming System and its Development -in the case of Southeast Asia-

We conducted field study in Laos and Thailand during 1992, and in Mekhong Delta and in Laos during 1993. We have been assisted by various institution and people, such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos, University of Cantho, Vietnam and so on.After the field study carried out in Laos, August in 1992, All research members participated the fourth International Seminar on THE DISSEMINATION OF RESEARCH FINDINGS ON FARM TOOLS AND THE EVOLUTION FARMING SYSTEMS IN S.E.ASIA organized by Professor Thamrong Prempridi who is also one of our research team members. The object of the seminar were to dissiminate knowledge gained from field studies in Laos to interest parties in Japan and from countries in SE Asia, and to bring together technologists, social scientists and engineers to exchange views on farm tools/machines, farming system and related subject. Farm tools used in Laos are still traditional and locally made. Farming system put in practice there are also conventional which is fit to local conditions.In 1993 field study carried out in Mekhong Delta, Vietnam and Laos again. Tractor, threshing machine, milling machine are common in Mekhong Delta. Farming system, especially cropping patterns in the areas are very varying in Correspondence to mainly natural conditions. Farming system presently used in Mekhong Delta can be said to contain accumulated knowledge, skill and techniques which are most adaptive to the given local condition and environment.
