本研究では国際共同研究「微生物多様性21」“Microbial Diversity21"のわが国における展開の企画を行った。国際生物学連合(IUBS)の「生物の多様性」に関するプログラムに呼応して、国際微生物学連合(IUMS)は微生物学分野での多様性プログラム「微生物多様性21」“Microbial Diversity21"(1992年)を発表し、各国にたいしてその推進を呼びかけている。本総合研究では微生物の分類・生態から生理・分子生物学にいたるわが国の多方面の研究者の共同作業によって、「微生物多様性21」プロジェクトに示されているいくつかの基本的なテーマについて研究と討議を深め、これを通して微生物多様性に関連するわが国の将来の研究の全面的な発展を計ることを目的とした。このような目的を達成するために、1)微生物の系統進化と種の多様性;2)地球上の物質循環過程と微生物の多様性;3)生物間相互作用系における微生物の多様性;4)環境の微生物修復と微生物の多様性、の4つの研究班を設け、それぞれのカテゴリーに分類される研究内容について、研究分担者による共同研究を行った。また、上記各グループによる会合・連絡を行いながら、1993年9月に分担研究者全員による全体集会を、また、1994年2月に研究班の代表者会議を行った。全体集会では、分担研究者が、テーマに応じて本報告集に収録した報告を行うと共に、国際的な動向と並行しながら、わが国における将来の微生物多様性研究について方向付けを行い、具体的なプログラムを作成した。また、代表者会議などの会合では、微生物多様性研究のプロジェクトに関する内容、プロジェクト遂行の戦略、また、1994年秋に東京で開催される微生物多様性に関する国際シンポジウムの計画、内容について討議が行われた。

This study is part of the international joint research project "Microbial Diversity 21". The International Union of Biology (IUBS)'s "Diversity of Biology" platform has been called for, and the International Union of Microbiology (IUMS)'s diversity platform on the division of microbiology "Microbial Diversity 21" and "Microbial Diversity21"(1992) have been announced, and there is a great demand for progress in various countries. This comprehensive study aims to discuss the relationship between microbial diversity and biological diversity in order to plan for the comprehensive development of future research in China. To achieve these objectives, 1) Systematic evolution and diversity of microorganisms;2) Material cycle processes on Earth and diversity of microorganisms;3) Diversity of microorganisms in biological interaction systems;4) Diversity of microorganisms in environmental remediation;4) Research class design, classification, research content, research collaborators, and joint research. In September 1993, all researchers were invited to attend the meeting. In February 1994, representatives of the research class were invited to attend the meeting. All participants will participate in the preparation of this report, which will be collected from the international community, and the future direction of microbial diversity research. The International Conference on Microbial Diversity was held in Tokyo in the autumn of 1994 to discuss the contents of the conference, the strategy for implementation of the conference, and the contents of the conference.
