The project examines the dynamic interplay between, on the one hand, emotional repertoires communicated and mobilized by state institutions in the EU and, on the other hand, articulations of emotions by activist networks (“affects from below”) that question the emotional politics of state authorities. The project defines emotional politics as political discourses and practices that address, cultivate, manipulate or mimic emotions and emotional expressions for political purposes.
