研究はまず学習課題に用いる言語教材の検討から始めた。学習課題は助詞の意味や使い方を理解させるために、児童に絵画を提示して、その絵画に対応する文を作成させるものである。作成させる文に用いる名詞、助詞、動詞・形容詞などの言語教材を選定するために、健常児および聴覚障害児の語彙発達や文法能力に関する文献資料を収集・整理した。そして、名詞については、幼児や児童になじみ深く、しかも多くの述語との組み合わせが可能で、絵画で表示できるものを選択した。指導対象となる助詞については、使用頻度が高く、発達的な出現時期の早いものを選択した。また動詞と形容動詞については、選択した助詞を用いた構文を構成するものであることを前提とした上で、日常生活のなかでの使用頻度が高く、将来の言語発達にとって重要な役割をはたすものであるとともに、絵画によって明確に表現できるものを選択した。次に、選択した言語教材の組み合わせから作成した文について、その内容を表現する絵画教材を作成した。絵画教材は、コンピュータの描画ソフトで作成した静止画として、またビデオカメラで撮影した画像をコンピュータに取り込んで静止画および動画データとして作成した。さらに、文中の名詞に接続する助詞を入れ替えることで異なった内容が表現される場合には、その内容に対応する絵画教材も同様に作成した。異なる内容を表現する絵画教材は、学習課題の実施時に、児童が作成した文の内容をフィードバックするときに用いるものである。現在は、学習課題をコンピュータ(Machintosh)上で実現するためのプログラムをHYPERCARDおよびHYPERTALKにより作成している。プログラムが完成した後に、ことばの教室などで実際に利用してもらい、コンピュータ利用による指導の効果を検討するとともに、コンピュータ操作による問題点などをあきらかにする予定である。
