近世の琉球王国時代(1609〜1879年)における物価に関する基本的な史料の収集を主とし、いくつかの分析をも行った。その結果、17世紀半ばから19世紀半ばにかけて首里王府の物価政策を示す史料を発掘することができた。具体的に示すと、「石宝秘稿」(国立国会図書館蔵)中の廻文がそれにあたる。米麦粟などの穀物、黒砂糖、欝金、木材、菜種子などが銭と換算されているため、物価の変動を把握することができる基礎史料であることが判明した。その他、1660年代の「羽地仕置」、1670年代から1870年代にかけての「琉球王国評定所文書」中にも物価史料が含まれていることが分かった。後者の文書には、幕府の亨保改革の影響が薩摩藩を媒介に琉球に及んでいたことを示す「琉球諸物出物引合値書成定帳」(1724年)が記録されている。それによると沖縄・宮古・八重山の特産物や反布等の92品目がリストアップされ、その価格が示されている。この「定帳」の分析から当該期の物価状況と琉球王府と薩摩藩との間で発生した物価政策をめぐる衝突が発生していたことが分かった。都市部(首里・那覇)と地方(田舎間切や離島)とでは、物価のあり方が異なっていた。それを示す史料として、前者のそれは1780年代から1810年代にかけて記録された「伊江親方日日記」、後者のそれは1870年代の「八重山嶋諸物代付帳」等が有効な史料であることが分かった。その他、中国からの冊封使一行のもたらす評価貿易における商品の価格などを示す「評価方日記」(1830年代から1860年代)からも物価状況を把握することができる。とりわけ、福州相場と琉球の相場の連動性など、今後解明すべき課題も明確になった。
