本研究では縄文時代の石器群を構成する属性として、遺跡内における石器群の組み合わせの背景(生産活動の構成等の生態的要因)とともに、石器自体を製作する技術の特徴と、その系譜の解明という二つの側面から、遺跡内の石器群についての分析を試みた。この中で特に重点を置いたのは石器製作技術についての分析である。今回は関東地方の遺跡を具体的な分析対象として、剥片石器の製作技術のなかに従来指摘されたことのなかった、熱を利用した剥片剥離技術の存在を明らかにするために、黒曜石製石器の製作址における剥片類のフィッショントラックを観察し、受熱の有無を確認した。また、そうした石器製作技術が縄文時代の集団にいかなる形態で保有されたのか、という点をあきらかにするために、遺跡内における石器製作址の在り方(位置,構成,形成過程)についての分析を実施した。これらの分析の結果、縄文時代の剥片石器(とくに石鏃などの狩猟用石器)は、遺跡単位での保有量の比較といった次元とは異なり、住居に対応する単位の集団(世帯)が、基本的な石器の保有単位として捉えることができ、石鏃の保有は、そうした単位のなかで、とくに集中的な保有をおこなう住居(世帯)が存在し、被熱加工はこうした世帯を中心として行われた可能性が極めて高いと推測できた。今後に分析を追加する必要があるが、縄文時代集団における石器の保有形態は、遺跡を取り巻く環境に依存した生産活動の構成を反映するという事実とともに、そうした背景のなかで、石器自体の保有形態に偏向したり在り方が存在し、それが遺跡内における石器製作の展開に深く関係する点が明らかにできた。またこうした事実は、縄文時代の分業や、技術の継承といった観点から社会組織の解明に迫りうる研究の切り口を用意するものと期待される。
