项目摘要

研究の理論的枠組は、新歴史主義と70、80年代の文学理論である「影響の不安」理論である。これに基くことにより、ロマン主義文学者の独創性探究行為と崇高美学論、そしてフランス革命を生むことになる千年王国論の各々が、エディプス・コンプレックスの図式の内部で絶対的根源を先行者である家父長から奪い取ろうとする行為として、西欧史のイデオロギーに参与する個別物語であることを明らかにした。この枠組みに基き、英国ロマン派前期のW.ワ-ズワスとS.T.コールリッジの文学的独創性を分析した。すると、彼らは一面で上記の方法論に依拠しながらも、他方それに対する必然的反動として、自ら虚構的に根源を作り上げることによって、別種の独創性をも主張していることが判明した。この現象が、コールリッジにおいては、文学論と政治的言説の間の理念上の矛盾として現れ、ワ-ズワスの作品では、フランス革命期の政治的現実の解釈行為とそれを阻む抑圧として表面化していることが今回初めて証明された。とりわけワ-ズワスにおいて二つの独創性の戦略は、各々の可能性の極限が修辞上の相克として結晶化していることが確認され、政治と美学の言説を巻き込んだ近代的独創性の概念が、英国ロマン派に至ってその極北に達すると同時に、行き詰まり状態にも至ったアイロニカルな状況が言語分析のレベルで証明された。これ以降の詩人は、ロマン主義的アイロニ-を鍵として、絶対的根源に依拠しない、個別的創造性を追及して行くことが予測される。次なる課題は、この研究で明らかになった極限的近代性を原点に据え、象徴派とモダニズムの言説を分析することによって、ポスト近代を定義する仕事になるだろう。(本研究の成果の一部は、日本英文学会中部地方支部第45回大会にて口頭発表された。学術論文は、1994年9月公刊予定で投稿中である。)
