本研究は、部品企業(主に中堅・中小)の海外投資戦略行動のダイナミズムを、組立企業との取引関係の視点から解明することを主たる目的として行われた。その結果、次のようなファクト・ファインディングを得た。まず第一にあげられるのが、部品企業の海外展開の動機についてである。これまで部品企業の海外展開は組立企業の要請によるものであり、その見返りとして部品企業は組立企業から各種の支援活動をうけていると一般に考えられていた。しかし、実際には必ずしもそうではなく、優れた技術を持つ部品企業は、組立企業から支援をうけることなく、むしろ主体的に海外投資活動を行った結果、日本国内で取引のなかった日系企業の海外での新規開拓や、現地の取引先企業の新規開拓に成功しているという事実が判明した。第二に、独自の優れた技術を駆使し海外投資を行っている企業の多くが順調に業績を伸ばしているという事実が明らかにされた。その要因として、デザイン・インや継続的取引に代表される日本的生産方式や取引方式の世界的な普及があげられるようである。これらの方式の普及は、当初の予想以上に進展していることが判明した。第三に、海外展開の進展にともなって、部品企業においても確実に国際分業が進展しているという事実が判明した。国際的な分業は、地理的レベルならびに製品の技術レベルの両面で見られ、量的な拡大と取引企業との地理的接近が主たる目的のように思われる。以上が本研究における主要な成果である。なお、本研究では、第1次アンケート調査ならびにヒアリング調査の集計結果の分析に多くの時間をさいたため、第2次アンケート調査の発送ならびに分析を十分に行うことができなかった。これらの点については、今後の課題とし、その中で本研究で得られた成果を活用していきたい。
