1.紀伊半島南部(三重県・奈良県・和歌山県)の山村地域(林野率75%以上の市町村)を対象にして、「国勢調査」や「農林業センサス」等の資料により、高度成長期以後の人口構成・産業構造の変容とその地域的性格を整理した。その結果明らかになったことは以下のようにまとめられる。(1)三重県の一部と奈良県南部、および和歌山県南部において、特に激しい人口減少がみられた。(2)これらの地域激しい世帯数の減少を経験した地域とほぼ一致している。(3)しかし一方で、主にDID(人口集中地区)に近い山村では人口減少がすでに一段落しており、山村内部での地域分化が明瞭に生じてきたといえる。(4)また産業構造については、全体的に農業・林業の地位低下と建設業・製造業のシェアの増大が共通して認められる、(5)より詳細に検討すると、三重県では製造業、奈良県では林業、そして和歌山県では農業の比率が比較的高く、地域的差異が明確である。2.上記の作業を踏まえた上で、三重県飯高町と宮川村を対象として、調査を行った。これらの2つは、高度成長期以後いずれも激しい人口減少を経験してきたが、都市との位置関係や産業構造の内容において異なっている。現地調査においては、役場等での資料収集と聞き取り、地元住民代表に対する聞き取り調査、そして土地利用現況等に関する観察調査を行なった。その結果、次の諸点が明らかになった。(1)全体的に、奥地に位置する集落ほど人口と世帯数の減少率が高い傾向にあるが、それが必ずしも当てはまらない場合もある。(2)各集落住民の就業構造の内容や経営耕地規模と人口・世帯の残存率との間にはあまり明確な対応関係はみられない。3.今年度は一世帯ごとの聞き取り調査まで実施できなかったので、これは次年度以後の課題である。こうしたミクロな調査を積み重ねることによって、奥地山村における集落の再生産構造のメカニズムが把握できよう。
