本研究は文部省科研「重点領域研究」申請を前提に、次の3点を念頭に置きながら実施された。1.重点領域研究は何を達成しようとし、そのための研究体制はどのようなものであるべきか。2.本研究助成および申請予定の重点領域研究(平成7年2月17日に申請書を提出)のテーマである冷戦研究を現在日本国内で行う意味は何か、研究はどのようにすれば有効に遂行され、最大限の成果を挙げることができるか。3.冷戦研究の国内外の現況はどのようなものであるか--である。資料収集はメンバー間の相互連絡、小研究会などを経たのち、第1回目の正式会議を平成7年1月21日〜22日に行った。会議は次のテーマで行われた。(1)「現行の他の重点領域研究の現況」についての評価、検討。具体的には「戦後日本形成」「総合的地域研究」「ユーラシアの政治経済」など現在進行中の重点領域研究について、いかなる点を参考にすべきかを中心として検討した。(2)現在米国で進行中の「冷戦国際史プロジェクト」を取り上げ、ロシアをはじめとする主として旧東陣営諸国で政府関連資料がどの程度公開されており、それをもとに如何なる成果が挙っているかが報告された。(3)重点領域研究を申請するにあたってその意義のほか、メンバーの人選など具体的な話し合いも行われた。第2回目の会議は平成7年2月11日〜12日に行われた。(1)「データベース入力の現状」、(2)「文献目録作成について」、(3)「本総合研究Bについての総括」を行った。メンバーのうち数名はそれぞれ北海道スラブ研究センター、国際大学日米関係研究所、広島大学平和科学研究センターなどに出張し、データ入力の現状について聴取を行い、資料収集も行った。本研究の最大の成果として、欧米の第一次、第二次資料のデータベースおよび文献目録の作成がある。約8000件を収録した800頁に及ぶもので、多くの労力と時間を要したため謝金が計上額を上回ることとなった。

(3)Key areas of study: application, significance, selection, and implementation The 2nd meeting was held on February 11 ~ 12, 2007. (1)"The current status of digital events",(2)"Documentation catalog creation", and (3)"This comprehensive research B" are published. About 8000 pieces were recorded on 800 pages, and the amount of time required was increased.
