项目摘要

1994年8月23〜25日に奥日光における森林白骨化の現場を研究班員で観察し、大気汚染等による森林被害の可能性について、それぞれの専門の立場から意見交換を行った。これらの現地観察や議論を通して、森林被害に代表されるように酸性雨や酸性物質に起因すると言われていても極めて学問的には未解明の部分が多いこと、再認識した。この現地調査の際に、第1回の全体会議を開催し、1.現状把握と動態解析、2.広域モニタリング体制の検討、3.酸性物質や酸化性物質の生成機構の解明とモデル化、4.長距離輸送と変換モデルの構築、5.生態系への影響の5テーマに分けて、「アジア地域における酸性雨による広域汚染の解明」のために欠落している研究や緊急に必要とされる研究を提案し、それらをまとめて研究計画として企画立案し、平成8年度発足の重点領域および平成7年度科学研究費補助金として「離島における集中観測に関連する総合研究A」を申請することとした。第1回,2回全体会議の議論の総合研究Aに関する提案をまとめて、「離島観測によるアジア地域の広域汚染の解明」を申請し、日本海側ならびに太平洋側に局所的な影響を受けにくい離島を選び、東アジア地域における広域汚染を検出するための季節別集中観測を行うこととした。第1,2,3回の全体会議の結果を踏まえて、1.現状把握と動態解析:国内を中心として、2.越境汚染の現状把握と動態解析、3.広域モニタリング:手法の確立と実証、4.酸性物質や酸化性物質の生成能の評価とモデル化、5.長距離輸送と変換モデルの構築、6.微量大気汚染物質の陸域生態系への影響評価の6計画研究班、総括班といくつかの公募研究からなる重点領域研究「21世紀に向けた東アジア地域の大気環境動態の解明と汚染制御」を、平成8年度発足を目指して申請した。
