本研究での調査は、1994年10月から1995年1月にかけて、東京と大阪においてマタニティスイミング実施者と妊娠経過が順調なマタニティスイミング非実施者を対象に質問紙調査をおこなった。回収したサンプルは、マタニティスイミング実施者198名、非実施者80名である。質問紙における調査項目は、文献情報調査をおこない、この結果を参考に作成した。得られたデータをクロス分析とカイ二乗検定により、現在までに分析した結果は、以下のようにまとめることができる。1.実施者は、非実施者に比べスポーツを実施することとスポーツ観戦を好むものが、顕著に多い。2.実施者は、身近にマタニティスイミング経験者がいる。3.実施者は、夫・医師・助産婦からマタニティスイミングを勧められたものが多い。4.実施者は、妊娠中スポーツをすることでストレスの解消になる・生活が充実してくる・健康になる・体力が向上する・適切な体重増加になる・腰痛予防や解消になる・仲間ができる・自分に自信ができると考えている。5.非実施者は、妊娠中スポーツをすることで、日常生活の中で疲れを残す・忙しくなると考えている。6.実施者・非実施者ともに妊娠中スポーツをすることは、お産を楽にすると考えている。7.実施者は、非実施者に比べ、妊娠してから妊婦同志の交友関係が広がったものが多い。8.実施者は、非実施者に比べ自分は安産になると考えているものが多い。9.非実施者は、マタニティスイミング教室の所在地を知らないものが多い。10.実施者・非実施者ともに学齢期においては、ほぼ同様なスポーツ経験を持っている。10.青年期(19歳-20歳)・成人期(23歳-妊娠前)には、実施者は、非実施者に比べスポーツ実施率が顕著に高く、青年期・成人期のスポーツ実施は、現在の活動的なライフスタイルの重要な先行要因と推察される。今後さらに得られたデータを分析し、スポーツ参加の規定要因を明らかにする予定である。
