今日,動画が扱えるマルチメディアのハードウェア環境を科学教育に応用する研究が行なわれつつある。ここで,動画ソフトウェア開発するために実写による大きな動画データを大量に扱う必要性が生じ,このデータを効率よく管理運用するための動画データのデータベースが必要となった。本研究では,異機種間でのソフトウェアの互換性を維持しながらCPUの性能差による動画速度の低下しないマルチメディアを応用した教育用ソフトウェアを開発する上で,実写データなどの大きな動画像データを大量に効率よく管理運用するため必要となる動画像データのデータベースを開発を行った。音声,動画像データのデータベースを開発するための試作として,カード型データベースソフトHyper Cardを用い,マルチメディア対応CAI(教育用)ソフト,ネットワーク対応型動画像データベースを構築した。開発環境としてApple社製Macintoshを用いた。以下にその内容を示す。(1)ネットワークの整備Ethernetにより校内の各ワークステーション,パソコンからのアクセスを可能とした。ただし,上記Macintosh以外の機械からはデータ名,CAIソフト名のみ見ることができる。(2)サーバワークステーションの設定ワークステーション上に音声,動画像,およびこれらを含んだマルチメディア対応CAI(教育用)ソフトを登録,管理できるようにした。通信プロトコルとしてether-talkを用いた。(3)クライアントにおけるデータベースアクセスインターフェースの設計カード型データベースソフトHyper Cardを用い,ネットワークを介して簡単な検索のできるグラフィックユーザインタフェース(GUI)環境を構築した。以上のように動画データベース,ならびにマルチメディア対応CAIソフト(教育用)データベースを構築し,当初の研究目的を果たした。
