現在のマルチメディアシステムは,対話と出力方法が決まった特殊化された形式のオブジェクトを基本にして構成されている.そのため定型的な機能は高いが,柔軟性と拡張性に劣るものとなっている.多目的利用を考えた場合,オブジェクトはできるだけ汎用の形式でデータベースに格納し,それぞれの目的ごとに特殊化したビューの形式で各マルチメディアシステムおよび各利用者のマルチメディアインタフェースを構成すべきである.本研究では,情報提供の単位をデータベースへの検索の結果として実現することにより,ハイパーメディアシステムの利用法の柔軟性を増すことにある.また,この手法により情報とシナリオを分離でき,複数のシナリオで情報を共用し,情報の一貫的管理が可能となる.本研究のもう1つの重要な目的は,データベースビュー(データベースから検索した情報)とMVCアーキテクチャのビュー(対話可能なグラフィックスオブジェクト)を統一的に扱うためのモデルの形式化にある.上記の考え方に基づき,本科学研究費で購入したDOS/V計算機上で,Visual Works/Smalltalk(Parc System Co.)という開発環境を用いて,建設省国土地理院の国土数値データを地理データベース化し,それから生成した対話地図オブジェクトをデータベースビューを基本としたハイパーメディアとして利用できる視覚的利用者環境を開発した.
