人間がそれぞれの状況での相手の態度や行動のしかたを感受し応答するという経験は,乳幼児初期の母子関係のなかで始まっており,子どもは周囲から受動的にそれらを取り込むのではなく,やりとりに積極的に参加することを通して適切な応答のしかたを形成していると考えられる。本研究は,社会的相互交渉における生後18か月の子どもの行動傾向を,母親の発達観や期待と子どもの一日の生活の生態学的観察から検討することを目的とした。対象は18か月時の男児で、家族構成は父母と兄(小学1年)である。対象児が朝から夜までの約13時間に生起した社会的相互交渉すべてが観察され,VTR記録および筆記記録がとられた。分析の方法は,相互交渉における発話行動および非言語行動に関するトランスクリプトがおこされ,母親および兄の発話の内容,言語スタイル(文形式,アクセントなど),非言語行動の変化と,それに対する対象児の発話および行動を媒介とした対応とが検討された。母親とのやりとりのなかでは,母親の発話のアクセントや速度という語調の変化に対して,対象児は遊びの手をとめるなどの応答を示した。緊急時以外では,対象児の行動の始発や抑制を促すために、母親は直接的な指示や行動による介入よりも,このようなきっかけを繰り返し間接的に与えることが多かった。兄との遊びのなかでの意思のずれに対しても同様に,トラブルを避けるための調整が兄によりおこなわれ,その後に直接的な制止のことばかけや行動により,対象児の行動の変容がみられた。子どもは社会的相互交渉のなかで相手の働きかけの変化を経験し,また相互に応答を調整しあうことをとおしてその敏感さを獲得していることが示唆された。ここでは相手の応答を常に想定した対話性の過程が要求され,うまくいかない場合に調整のための手がかりが少しずつ直接的に与えられ,これを自らが獲得していく過程が示された。
