本年度は,これまで日本語テキスト(かな漢字誤変換検出)を用いた実験で明らかになってきた(a)正テキストの事前提示による誤字検出の促進(直接プライミング効果),(b)校正時のテキスト聴覚提示による誤字検出の促進/抑制効果(間接プライミング効果)について,その一般性を明らかにするために,日本人学生を対象として,英語テキストでのミスタイプ検出実験を行なった。英文科学エッセイ(324語)を材料文とし,ランダムに発生させた24語のエラー(文字倒置)を含むターゲットテキストを作成した。第1実験では137名の被験者による2(正テキスト提示の有無)×2(テスト時聴覚提示の有無)の要因実験を行なった結果,有意な正テキストの主効果,ならびに聴覚提示の主効果の有意な傾向が得られ,両者の交互作用は見られなかった。しかし両要因とも効果の向きは仮設とは逆であり,統制条件での平均誤字検出率が49.7%と最も高く,他の3条件では35-40%と低かった。この結果を確認するため,第2実験として73名の被験者により一要因(テスト時聴覚提示の有無)実験を行なった。その結果,主効果が有意であり,やはり聴覚提示のない群の平均検出率は49.8%,ある群では27.1%と,テキスト聴覚提示による抑制効果が示された。従来,英語文化圏で英語テキストを用いた実験においても日本語テキストでの先行研究と同様,正テキストによる促進効果が報告されており,今回の実験で直接/間接プライミング効果の両者において抑制効果が示されたことは極めて特異な結果である。これは英語が第二言語であるためと考えられるが,なぜ第二言語の場合にはより豊富なテキスト情報が与えられるとエラー検出率が低下するのか,また一部のかな漢字変換エラーについてテキスト聴覚提示がエラー検出率に抑制的効果をもたらしている現象との関係など今後考察を深め,より総括的なエラー検出モデルへまとめあげていく予定である。
