本研究は,現代青年の友人関係について,(1)どのような友人観をもっているか,(2)友人との対人葛藤をどのように解決しているか,(3)友人に対して自己開示するときにどのような抵抗感をもちやすいかに着目し,その発達的変化についても検討した.青年期中期の高校生263名(男子111名,女子152名)と,青年期後期の大学生184名(男子58名,女子126名)を対象に調査を実施した.質問紙は,友人観尺度24項目,対人葛藤場面35項目(各項目について,深刻度,および4つの解決ストラテジーが選択肢として設けられていた),開示抵抗感質問紙(友人に対する開示抵抗感31項目)から構成されていた.その結果,(1)友人観は6因子が抽出され,この因子構造は高校生も大学生も全く同じであった.6因子は,「親和傾向」「自己防衛」「受傷受容・率直親交」「自己確立」「同調」「八方美人」と命名された.(2)6つの対人葛藤場面(「信用喪失懸念」「孤立感」「迷惑」「非共感性」「期待はずれ」「相手の責任回避」)における解決方略には発達差や性差が認められなかった.全般に,双方向ストラテジー(直接-双方向,間接-双方向)で70%以上を占めていた.しかし,高校生女子は「孤立感」葛藤場面を深刻に捉えやすいが,大学生女子は高校生女子よりも「期待はずれ」場面を深刻にとられる傾向があった.また,女子は男子よりも葛藤が強いが,現実の解決ストラテジーでは差異は認められなかった.(3)8因子から構成される開示抵抗感では,友人に悩みを自己開示すると,否定的な評価をうけるのではないかという抵抗感,自分のイメージ変化してしまうことへの懸念が,それぞれ大学生の方で強かった.また,自己開示シても解決されないであろうという抵抗感は高校生,大学生ともに男子のほうが強かった.プライド喪失への抵抗感は,女子は大学生で強まり男子は弱まる傾向がみられた.今後は中学生も調査対象者とした,現代青年の交友関係の特徴について,さらに検討していくつもりである.
