本研究は,留学生が(1)具体的にどのような葛藤場面を頻繁に経験しているか,(2)葛藤の原因についてどのように認知する傾向があるか,(2)葛藤解決のためにどのようなストラテジーがとられるか,について検討することを目的にした。予備調査で収集・選出した14の葛藤場面について,本調査では46名(女子18名:中国・台湾・韓国出身者5割)が,a)経験の有無,b)深刻度,c)葛藤場面の原因帰属を選択回答し,d)各葛藤場面における解決ストラテジーでは自由記述回答した。これら自由記述は,3人によりFalbo & Peplau(1980)の2次元(直接性-間接性と双方向-一方向)4種類の類型に分類された。その結果,(1)留学生が多く経験していた葛藤場面は,「日本人からの幼稚な質問」(65.2%)「事務手続の場面で冷たくされた」(51.1%)であり,最も少なかった場面は,「指導教官が自分の研究をさせてくれない」(13.0%)「指導教官が相談にのってくれない」(10.9%)であった。(2)14場面における深刻度について因子分析を行い,「孤立感」「期待はずれ」「事務交渉困難」「実害」の4因子を抽出した。これらの深刻な葛藤場面について,その原因帰属をみると,全ての因子において,留学生は葛藤の原因を「相手の性格」に帰属していた。また,次に多い原因帰属は,「孤立感」因子では「外国人だから」,「期待はずれ」因子では「人種的偏見」,「事務交渉困難」因子では「その人がたまたま忙しかったから」であった。(3)解決ストラテジーでは,全ての因子において,全般的に「間接-一方向」型が最も多く取られていた。その背景には,言語的困難さもあると考えられる。しかし,次に多い葛藤解決ストラテジーは,4場面とも異なり,場面に応じて対処法を使い分けていることがわかった。今後は,面接法を用いた葛藤プロセスのさらなる解明,また日本人(学生)からみた阻害要因の検討などが必要であり,現在のところ進行中であり分析中である。
