ジェイムズ一世時代の政治的スペクタクルの布置を検討し、以下のような知見を得ることができた。(1)この時代になると、ロンドンの同職組合によって屋外で上演される市民のパジャントリが、王権の称揚を目的とすることはなくなる。(2)国王の称揚を目的とする政治的スペクタクルは、王室財政によって上演経費がまかなわれる屋内の宮廷仮面劇に一本化することになる。(3)多額の上演経費をかけて行なわれる宮廷仮面劇の上演は王室財政を圧迫し、特別上納金徴発の問題などをめぐる王室対ロンドン市当局の対立の大きな要因となる。(4)その結果、ロンドン市は市民パジャントリで富を誇示し、市民パジャントリは王室とロンドン市の対立を表現するジャンルとなる。(5)こうして、宮廷仮面劇と市民パジャントリは上演主体・上演形式・上演目的のどのレヴェルで見ても、対立的な政治的スペクタクルの形式となる。このような事態は、貴族、自治体が一体となって女王の行幸を歓迎して上演したエリザベス一世時代の巡幸のスペクタクルとは大きな隔りを示しているとともに、市民パジャントリが載冠を祝うこともなく、密室化した宮廷仮面劇が上演されつづけたチャールズ1世時代のスペクタクルのあり方を予示するものとなっている。
