A Sarvey Research on Dynamics of Japanese Globalism and Nationalism

希望日本为解决全球性问题做出更大贡献。然而，许多日本人的观点是狭隘的，因此不仅要弄清日本人对全球和国际问题的态度，还要弄清他们对自己国家和人民（日本和日本人）的态度。本研究的目的是从理论和实证两个方面阐明上述动态，并探索如何提高日本人对全球问题的意识。关于实证研究，1996年1月进行了预调查。受访者为本科生及其家长。通过该调查，（1）完善了后续主要调查的框架，（2）检查了两代之间的差异，（3）调查了可能的代间传播。考虑到完善的理论框架和上述预调查的结果，1996年12月进行了主要调查。受访者是从日本各地随机挑选的1,550人。首先，调查结果显示了当今日本人对全球、国际问题以及本国和本国人民的态度的动态。事实证明，现在还心胸狭隘的日本人不在少数。第二，澄清了这种狭隘的日本人观点在这10年里并没有减弱。相反，与10年前相比，这种狭隘性在一定程度上变得更大。

Japanese are expected to make greater contribution to the solution for the global issues. However, many Japanese have a narrow-minded view, so it is significant to clarify the dynamics of Japanese attitudes toward not only global and international problems, but also their own country and people (Japan and Japanese). The objective of this study is to elucidate the above dynamics both theoretically and empirically, and to explore the way of making Japanese more conscious of global issues.Refinement of theoretical framework was done whenever it was necessary. Concerning the empirically study, pre-survey was conducted in January 1996. Respondents were undergraduate students and their parents. From this survey, (1) framework of succeeding main survey was refined, (2) difference between two generations was examined, and (3) possible transmission between generation was investigated. Considering the theoretical framework refined and the results of above pre-survey, main survey was conducted in December 1996. Respondents are 1,550 people randomly selected from all over Japan. First, the results showed the dynamics of Japanese attitude today toward global, international problems and their own country and people. It was confirmed that the number of Japanese people who were still narrow-minded nowadays was not so small. Second, it was clarified that this narrow-minded view of Japanese has not been weakening for these 10 years. On the contrary, this narrow-mindedness partly became greater, compared with 10 years ago.
