Development and applications of Vector ESR spectroscopies were reviewed. Vector ESR was developed on the basis of saturation transfer ESR method. We applied the method on the various biomaterial systems, and found that Vector ESR gives a universal method for selective detection in the continuous wave regime. We will further indicate the potentiality vector ESR to the study of biomolecular dynamics.Thus far, biological applications of vector ESR spectroscopy are just the beginning, and mainly focused on the two area, namely protein and biomembrane systems. Vistnes studied dynamics of spin-labeled hemoglobin using the phase signal of ST-ESR detection. Watari et al. Showed the feasibility of vector ESR spectroscopy as applied on the flavin enzyme system, and found the sensitivity of the phase spectrum. They also indicated that both the amplitude and phase spectra can detected the unknown high spin signal from ferrihemoglobin system.
