英文摘要
The present point-of-care assays and devices developed for rapid detection of biofluid markers are dealing with at least one of the challenges of automation, multiplexing, quantitative measurement, reproducibility, scalability, or cost. This project aims to develop a new scalable and reproducible CApillary Microfluidic Electrochemical Nano-biosensing (CAMEN) platform which enables full automation of complex quantitative bioassays for low-cost and point-of-care detection of biomarkers. Objective #1: Development of reproducible and ultrasensitive electrochemical nano-biosensors; Objective #2: Development of capillary microfluidic components and the CAMEN platform; Objective #3: Employment of the CAMEN platform for detecting biomarkers in spiked/clinical samples. At the end of the two years, we will demonstrate the production of novel compositions of conductive nanomaterials/inks and their screen-printing on flexible substrates, enabling the conversion of electrodes to electrochemical nano-biosensors in one single step. The project will also lead to the development of a new microfluidic platform with a developed library of characterized capillary microfluidic components, and once combined, can automate complex protocols of electrochemical biosensing into one single chip. Our proposed CAMEN-based bioassays would 1) be automated and quantitative sample-to-result tests, 2) be modular and easily adaptable for making new assays, 3) have multiplexing capability for detecting various types of biomarkers simultaneously in one single kit, 4) be rapid (<20 min) and low-cost (<$15-20), and 5) be compatible with digital health monitoring due to the wireless signal transfer to Web-App and Cloud-systems, aligned with the needs of emerging digital health platforms in Canada. This project will lead to economic benefits to Canada by creating demands for Canada's products and IPs related to micro- and nano-technologies, diagnostic platforms, and medical devices.
