本研究では、わが国におけるファッションイラストレーションの変遷について服装デザイン学的な視点から考察し、以下のことを明らかにした。(1)今まで別々に論じられていた「抒情画」と「(狭義の)ファッションイラトスレーション」の二つの流れを「(広義の)ファッションイラストレーション」の中に系統づけまとめた。(2)広義のファッションイラストレーションにおいて、上記の二つの流れの他に、洋裁ブームすなわち被服製作に原点を見い出すことのできる菅沼金六から須貝一男・青木伊津子らへと連なる「基準線方式」による「スタイル画またはファッションデザイン画」の流れが存在することを発見し、検証して重要性を指摘した。(3)上記の(1)と(2)の相互の関連を明らかにした。また全体の流れを「抒情画」「(狭義の)ファッションイラストレーション」「スタイル画またはファッションデザイン画」の三つに整理することを提案し、相互関係について系統図を作成し、指示した。その結果、三つの流れはそれぞれに重要であり、互いに関連を持ちながらわが国における「(広義の)ファッションイラストレーション」の世界を発展させることに寄与していることを明らかにした。
