项目摘要

本研究は科学者とイラストレーターの協働的サイエンティフィック・イラストレーション(以下、SI)制作において、イラストレーターが何を行っているのかを明らかにすることを目的にしている。平成26年度においては、イラストレーターと研究者の一対一の協働的イラストレーション制作の事例分析を行った。事例分析においては、医学・生命科学の論文と研究発表に使用する複数枚のイラストレーション制作を対象に、研究者とイラストレーターの間の対話や、制作過程のラフスケッチ、インタビュー記録などを収集し、その制作過程を分析した。分析の結果、研究者は概念的でシンプルなイラストの図案と、図の意図を説明していたのに対して、イラストレーターは研究者の図案を独自に変化させ、論文だけでなくその後の講演にも使いやすいような絵の様式で、かつインパクトを持つ図案に発展させていた。また、表現の科学的正確性については、研究者だけでなく、イラストレーターも調査を行っており、時に研究者も知らないことまでイラストレーターが調べていることなどが明らかになった。これらはイラストレーターが芸術性や描画技術を持っているだけでなく、研究者の価値観や知識、成果発表の実践スタイルを理解しているからこそできると考えられる。このことからイラストレーターは、研究者の価値観に寄り添いつつも、そのアイデアを芸術性やデザイン性と結びつけて創造的な表現を作り出す、科学的知識の創造的な表現者の一人であると考えられた。この成果は論文としてまとめ、ジャーナルに投稿する予定である。
