従来の幼児の運動に関する有能感の研究では、幼児は「できる」という自己評価を認知的中心化によって「とってもよくできる」という極端な反応バイアスを示す傾向にあり、結果として運動に関する経験の違いと有能感の間に差が生じにくいことが報告されている。本研究では、幼児の運動に関する有能さ評価のためにより適切な尺度を作成し、さらに、この尺度の妥当性を検討することを目的とした。今回は、従来のHarterの尺度を再検討し、幼児が運動に関する経験の違いと有能感の間の差を理解しやすいように運動経験の内容を具体的に3つの連続した絵で示す尺度(「どっちに似ている」)と動的遊びと静的遊びの2軸上での相対的な評価(「どっちが上手」)を用いた尺度の2種類の新版運動有能感尺度を作成し、この尺度を東京都内と山梨県内の幼稚園の年長児8クラス、合計234名(男児 名、女児 名)に行ない、同時にこの尺度の妥当性の検討を行った。尺度の信頼性としてアルファー係数を求め、その結果、「どっちに似ている」ではα.7434,「どっちが上手」ではα=.6402であり、尺度の信頼性は認められた。さらに、妥当性に関しては、「有能さを含む教師による幼児の行動評定」、「親の幼児に対するイメージ尺度」「幼児運動能力検査(東京教育大学体育心理学研究室作成)」の3項目との関連を調べた。その結果、「有能さを含む教師による幼児の行動評定」に関しては、両尺度とも「運動の積極性」、「運動の消極性」の項目に関して有意な相関が認められ、親の幼児に対するイメージ尺度に関しては、両尺度共に「強靭性」、「精神テンポ」に関して有意な相関が認められた。また、幼児運動能力検査に関しても全種目共に有意な相関が認められた。以上の結果よりこの尺度がある程度の妥当性をもつことが認められた。
