1.研究計画に従って、まずはイギリスおよび日本で出版された国語科教育思想関係文献並びに学校教育一般に関する文献を読解する作業を進めた。また、国内の大学図書館に出向き、イギリスで出版された国語科教育思想並びに教育一般に関する雑誌を中心に閲覧した。2.こうした基礎作業を通して、イギリスの国語科教育思想の動向を把握した。国語科教育のうち、特に読むことの教育と音声国語教育(話しことば教育)について研究した。読むことの教育の分野では、今日のイギリスの初等学校低学年における読むことの教育課程の背景にある教育思想を研究した。その研究成果は、安 直哉著「イギリスの国語科教育における読むことの教育課程」(『岐阜大学教育学部研究報告=人文科学=』第44巻第1号、1995年、pp.11-18.)にまとめた。また、音声国語教育の分野では、イギリスの中等学校における音声国語教育思想を今世紀前期に遡って考察した。その研究成果は、安 直哉著「二十世紀前期のイギリスにおける音声国語教育」(『岐阜大学国語国文学』第23号、1996年、pp.12-22.)にまとめた。こうした研究の結果、イギリスの国語科教育を形成している教育思想のうち、経験主義思想と学習者の発達段階との関係について、独自の知見を得ることができた。3.今後は、上記の研究をふまえて、国語科教育思想と国語科教育方法・国語科教育課程との関連について研究し、日本の国語科教育の動向との対照を試みていきたい。
