本研究の課題は,畿内農村に次ぐ先進地帯であった瀬戸内農村,とくに近世の芸備農村(安芸国と備後国・現在の広島県域に相当)の実態に即して,近世地主制の生成過程を明らかにすることである.この課題を追究するため,芸備農村の近世地主制の進展において,比較的早期に高度な段階に達していた地域を対象として資料収集調査を行った.その結果,かっての広島藩領・賀茂郡森近村(現在の東広島市)において,土居・荒谷家文書を発見・収集した.同家文書はごく一部に限って公刊されたが(広島県史・中世・資料編),近世文書の大部分は未整理なままであった.保存の措置をこうじる意味からも,同家文書を整理・分類しながら,本研究の課題分析を進めることにした.興味深いことに,近世の森近村において,検地帳の記載と田畑の現状との乖離には著しいものがあり,縄延び地が広範に存在していた.瀬戸内農村は畿内農村と並んで,西日本における農民的小商品生産の先進地帯とされている.先進地帯の地主制形成と,藩政村の抱え持つ縄延び地の関連は如何なるものであろうか.荒谷家文書によって,藩政村における縄延び地など余剰面積の存在と,農民余剰の発生,農民層分解,地主制形成などとの関連について,先進地帯におけるメカニズムの特質を検証中である.

The subject of this study is the development of the modern rural system in China. This topic was investigated in order to prepare for the progress of modern rural land ownership system, compare the early stage of high level, reach the middle of the region, and conduct data collection survey. As a result of this, a collection of documents was developed in the territory of Hiroshima, Morikami Village, Shigeru Prefecture (now Higashishima City). The same family documents are limited to one part of the public journal, and most of the modern documents are not organized. Preservation of the process means that the same family documents are sorted out, classified, and analyzed. In the modern times, there is a great deal of interest in the world. In the countryside of Setochi, in the countryside of Inchi, in the countryside of West Japan, in the small commodity production of farmers, in the advanced land. The formation of advanced land ownership system, the maintenance of the government, the extension of the land and the relationship between them. Araya family documents, the extension of the feudal government village, the existence of the surplus area, the emergence of the peasant surplus, the decomposition of the peasant stratum, the formation of the landlord system, the formation of the relationship, the characteristics of the advanced land system.
