项目摘要

本研究の初年度の課題は、第一に「数学の哲学」の現状を把握し、第二にそこでの問題状況と真理についての最近の研究成果の関連を明らかにすることであった。現状での数学に哲学は、今世紀初頭から60年代頃までの数学の哲学とはその相貌を大きく変えている。第一の課題はそれがどのような変化であったのかを明確化することであった。一言でいえば、その変化は、数学の哲学固有の問題を数学や数学基礎論の成果を踏まえてその内部で解決を試みることから、数学の哲学の問題群を哲学の他分野-例えば日常言語の意味論や認識論-の問題群との関連のもとに再定式化し、その上で解決を試みることへの変化と言えるであろう。この変化のきっかけは、すでにクワインやパトナムの著作にも窺えるが、それを表立って問題化したのはベナセラフであった。80年代以降は、このベナセラフの路線での研究が盛んになっており、本研究もその路線に立っている。今年度は、そうした様々な研究の中からフィールドのプログラム-数学への物理主義的なアプローチ-とライト・ヘイルのフレーゲ的プラトニズムの間での論争に焦点を合わせ、その論争が論理的必然性の物理主義的な理解をめぐる論争に帰着することを明らかにした。二つ目の課題については立ち入った論究を行うことはできなかったが、真理のミニマリズムがいわば物理主義的な立場からとともに、物理主義に反対する立場からも理解されること、そしてこれら二つの真理観が先の数学の哲学での論争に重なり合うことを示すことができた。
