本課題の第2目的である本文批評については特記すべき事項はない。第1目的である古版本に見える書き込みの収集と整理が第2年目の研究の中核となった。その研究実績を以下に報告する。(1) 学会発表(a)平成10年8月に英国ストラットフォードで開催の第28回InternationalShakespeare Conferenceにおいて、“A Seventeenth-century Reader of King Lear,with SpecialReference to the Marginalia in a First Folio at Meisei University"を発表、英・米・加・伊・日・西などの研究者約30名からなる分科会で討議。討議内容は下に述べる図書の刊行に役立った。(b)日本シェイクスピア協会の依頼で、会報Shakespeare News(38巻2号、平成11年3月発行予定)のために「1630年頃のシェイクスピアの読者」を執筆、寄稿した。(c)名古屋大学英文学会第38回大会(平成11年4月24日)で「17世紀のシェイクスピア読者-1623年の戯曲集の欄外メモを中心にして」と題して講演の予定。(2) 図書刊行 平成10年12月、明星大学図書館所蔵のシェイクスピア本の書き込みについての研究The First Folio of Shakespeare:A Transcrjpt of Contemporary Marginalia in a Copy of theKodama Memorial Library of Meisei Universityを公刊した。お詫びと謝辞 本年度限りで明星大学を退職するので、本課題はここで打ち切らざるを得ない。申し訳ない。顧みれば、課題16件、延べ33年度分の科研費を受けて今日まで研究。心から感謝したい。
