研究成果の概要(実証的分析結果について)1: 研究方法の概要:(1)学校総覧から、小学校・中学校・高等学校をランダムに選択し、質問紙法によるメールサーヴェイを行った。約800の有効標本を得た。然し、校旗を撮影する際に必ずしも自然光のもとで撮影されているとは限らず、色彩のシンボル効果を吟味するために最良の標本が得られたことにはならなかった。(2)校旗を制定する過程は、学校の設置者と校旗を制定する契機によって異なり多様である。然し、学校を訪問しても、十分な記録が残されている場合は少ない。2: 校旗の種類と活用場面:活用場面は(1)日常の教育活動に一環として、校旗が構内に掲揚されている場合と(2)特別教育活動・学校行事の場面。それぞれに応じて校旗があり、それらの形態・デッサン・材質に相違がある。3: 校旗のデザインや色彩には傾向がある。共通性の多い校旗構成は中心部分に校章を印するもの、またはその図案化したデザインをおくものである。校旗の地色や校章のデザインには、学校がおかれる地域の文化的な背景を反映するものが少なくなく、校旗を制定した時代の趨勢をも相当程度反映する。この観点から校旗の文化批判が可能である。4: 校旗は、一定の教育理想を形式的に代表する。しかし校旗の形・色・デザインがどのような教育的象徴機能を実際の教育過程でもちうるかを解析するためには、校旗を受け入れる生徒の立場と監護者たちの立場を教育的象徴との関連において分析する作業を含めてそれが行われる必要がある。
