We got the results described below.1. Balb/c mice were intraperitonealy immunized with ovalbumin (OVA) and alum, and high anti-OVA IgE titers were observed by passive cutaneous anapylaxis (pCA).2. Antigen-specific significanti eosinophil infiltrations were observed in lamina propria of gut by oral challenge with OVA,and peaked at 6h.3. The eosinophil infiltrations were significantly inhibited by preadministration with monoclonal anti-mouse IL-5 antibody.4. IL-5 mRNA positive cells were demonstrated in lamina propria by in situ hybridization.5. RANTES mRNA expression was observed in gut by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), but it was not non-specific. Eotaxin mRNA was not detected by the method.6. Transient mRNA expressions of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 (6h after oral challenge) were observed in gut.These results suggested important role of IL-5 in eosinophil infiltration into gut.
