During fiscal 2000, that constitutes the last of the three years of this study project, research was made on the materials pertaining to the biography of UEDA Akinari, from 60 years to 76 years. For this period, he was absorbed in the writing romances, and making waka or wabun. As a result of research, the following pieces of information have been obtained, that are arranged in the form of 'Report of Research Results', together with a list of work of Akinari, and a chronological record of Akinari's career.1. Concerning the study on japanese classical literature, Akinari began to study Heian literature at the start, but in his last years, he devoted himself to the study on Manyosyu. From 74 years of age, his study was absorbed into his historical novel, Harusame-monogatari. Several tales of Harusame-monogatar, for example Chikatabira, Amatsu-otome, Kaizoku were the fruits of his study for long years.2. In spite of commonly accepted view, the first manuscript of Harusame-monogatari was written probably in 1808. Several variants of Harusame-monogatari were also written in 1808.3. In his last years, Akinari depended on his friends, clergymen of Jippo-in, doctors of Tanigawa brothers, for support. It is very important that these friends not only gave the support to Akinari, but also encoureged him to write various works.
