Periodic polypeptides having repetitive amino-acid sequences, which are found in many native periodic proteins such as collagen, were synthesized and their conformations in solutions were analyzed by the CD measurement. It was shown that they take new secondary structures different from well-known α-helix, β-strand and polyproline-II structures. These results were also supported by the theoretical analysis based on the molecular-mechanic calculations. Moreover, many interest results relating to stabilization effects on the specific structures were obtained by the theoretical analysis. As a step of molecular design of polypeptide hybrids, closslinking reactions by γ-ray radiation and synthesis of the polypeptides having vinyl group were tried, then, it was confirmed that the desired products were obtained.
