Today, we have the Internet, the huge information network that enables us to connect computers momentarily serving the whole world. Moreover, we can create and edit movies and sounds, and we can experience Virtual Reality because the information technologies became advanced. Our study is to judge local and global transfiguration of society and civilization, and our ultimate goal is to figure out how we can take advantage of IT to improve our quality of life, so to speak, construction of Civilized Information Science. Our assignment is to tackle about the next five themes with the intellectuals from some academic disciplines because we want to solve the complex problem.(1) The studies of the friction between different civilizations(2) The studies of the Japanese language information(3) The studies of the mental and physical information(4) The studies of the information behavior(5) The studies of information economyWe formed the five research parties and picked up the leaders for each pa … More rty, and every scholar collected the materials and researched on them. And we collected the materials using the satellite network system set up at the Konan University international communication center and had a discussion on those subjects among some scholars. Also we had a discussion and exchanged opinions using multimedia meeting and communication systems (between Konan University and Kansei Gakuin University on 6th February 1999 ; between Konan University and Kyoto University on 6th March 1999). Then we held the symposium "The construction of Civilized Information Science" on 16th November 1999 at Konan University. More than a hundred people participated in the symposium, and among them were not only members of the study but also other scholars and general audiences. The keynote speaker was our leader Yoshizawa, and the leaders of each party also reported their studies after we had a discussion on the merits and problems of the information network systems.
