This study was designed to determine fluoride, sucrose and glucose intakes of 94 preschool children aged 3, 4 and 5 years at the starting point (30, 30, 34 respectively) residing in non-fluoridated areas (<0.16 Fppm) in Mie prefecture. The parents quantitatively and qualitatively duplicated all the diets that their children ingested on three separate days over a period of one year (Chowdhury et al., 1990). The diet samples were homogenized with known volumes of distilled water at the speed of 19,000 r.p.m. for ten minutes. The acid-diffusible fluoride in the liquid homogenate was isolated by the hexamethyldisiloxane-hydrochloric acid diffusion technique (Taves, 1968), and measured with a fluoride electrode. Fluoride intake from the use and ingestion of dentifrices was also estimated for each child. The levels of sucrose and fructose were determined by using a sugar analyzer (Model 2700 YSI, USA). As the value of fluoride intake in one 3-year-old boy was extremely high, it was performed with Smirnov test for extreme values. The obtained value was significantly different from the normal distribution and it was excluded (p=0.01). The data of fluoride intakes were finally obtained from 93 children with 29 (14 boys : 15 girls) aged 3, 30 (15 : 15) aged 4, and 34 (19 : 15) aged 5. The mean daily fluoride intakes from foods and beverages alone by children aged 3, 4 and 5 were 0.296 ± 0.193 mg (0.020 ± 0.013 mg/kg body weight), 0.275 ± 0.186 mg (0.016 ± 0.011 mg/kg body weight) and 0.303 ± 0.187 mg (0.016 ± 0.011 mg/kg body weight), respectively. The percentages of those with dentifrices containing fluorides were 66.7, 70.0 and 85.3, and the mean daily fluoride dentifrice uses 0.392 ± 0.221 g, 0.360 ± 0.258 g and 0.464 ± 0.215 g, respectively. The mean daily sucrose and fructose intake were 12.0 ± 6.9 g and 10.9 ± 5.5g, respectively.
93名3岁、30名(15:15)、34名(19:15)3岁、4岁、5岁儿童的氟摄入量分别为0.296±0.193 mg(0.020±0.013 mg/kg体重)、0.275±0.186 mg(0.016±0.011 mg/kg体重)和0.303±0.187 mg(0.016±0.011 mg/kg体重)。
